Houston’s own Tamar Davis showed off her powerful pipes last night on NBC’s two-time Emmy Award-winning series The Voice. Tamar wowed the judges in her blind audition, performing the soul classic Chain of Fools by Aretha Franklin.
Both Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton turned their chairs, hoping to have Tamar join their team. After careful consideration, Tamar chose Christina to be her coach and will be advancing to the next round of competition!
The Voice is not this Houstonian’s first experience in the limelight. She was once a part of the girl group with Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland that became Destiny’s Child but left the group before they rose to fame.
Tamar also performed for President Bill Clinton at the Kennedy Center, toured with R&B star Tamia, and wrote a Grammy-nominated song with Prince called Beautiful, Loved and Blessed. Currently, she also stars as Diana Ross in the touring cast of Motown: The Musical.
Tune in to NBC on Mondays and Tuesdays at 8/7c to watch Tamar Davis represent Houston on The Voice this season!Houston
