Join us this holiday weekend for a celebration of one race, the human race. In honor of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the city of Houston hosts its three annual events: the youth parade, the battle of the bands, and the grande parade.

MLK Youth Parade (Saturday, January 16th)

2016 marks the 10th annual MLK Youth Parade!

The parade will begin promptly at noon and last an hour and a half. The parade route will originate in Midtown at San Jacinto St. and Elgin St and continue down San Jacinto St. to Webster St. This parade will include 10 floats and 20 marching bands. Houston’s Own Actor/Singer Just Brittany will serve as the Grand Marshal.

MLK Battle of the Bands Competition (Sunday, January 17th)

2016 marks the 15th annual MLK Battle of the Band Competition!

The competition will run from 4 PM – 8 PM at W.W. Thorne Stadium. 16 nationally recognized and award winning marching bands from across the nation will be featured.

MLK Grande Parade (Monday, January 18th)

2016 marks the 22nd annual MLK Grande Parade!

The parade will start at 10 AM and last two hours. The parade route will be the same as the youth parade, starting in Midtown at San Jacinto St. and Elgin St and continue down San Jacinto St. to Webster St. This parade will include 15 floats and 30 marching bands. Rushion McDonald, the architect behind Steve Harvey’s brand and native Houstonian, will serve at the Grand Marshal.
