Men Who Mentor

By Richard Taylor

1.11.16: Global – (Lifestyle): The point between your present moment and your promise is your process, or, as I like to call it, your between the dream phase.

When you embrace your process, you, too, embrace your progress. And once you embrace your progress, you will begin to walk into the promises that have been set in place for your life.

As you begin to walk into your promise, it’s your job to reach back and help others who are between their dream; those whose stories and struggles are similar to your own.

If it wasn’t for those who decided to reach for me when I was in my between the dream phase, I don’t know where I’d be right now; mentoring has been my saving grace.

The selflessness of my mentors who, despite their struggles and personal issues, push me daily to succeed, has fueled me with a desire to serve and mentor young men and women in Chicago, where I live, and beyond.

I believe that all humans possess the capacity to mentor; however, not everyone has the willingness to do so.

And mentoring is, if nothing else, a work full of willingness; a willingness that’s needed now in our world more than ever.

You might not think there’s much you can to do help another human being, but I believe that each of us, no matter our station in life, has the capacity to share time, talent and/or treasure.

We all have great gifts inside of us that can spark change in the life of people we come in contact with.

So, as we acknowledge National Mentoring Month in January, let the struggles and successes of your life push you to share your experience and knowledge with others.

Don’t think of mentoring as an attempt to save the world, but rather a mission to reach and teach one. While living your dream, take a moment to inspire others to do the same!
