Ibn Sina Community Medical and Dental Center held their 3rd annual back to school health fair recently. Over 300 people in the community came out and were treated to free immunizations, dental screenings, blood sugar and cholesterol checks, teen smoking prevention, free info on insurance, medicare/medicaid and free snacks, face painting along with drawings for prizes and free school supplies. Many signed up for low cost school/ sports physicals and well woman exams. The Ibn Sina Foundation was established in 2001 by a group of local physicians, business, and healthcare professionals to bridge the growing gap between the health care needs of a rapidly expanding population of undeserved families, and the ability of existing public institutions to meet their needs. The Foundation’s mission is to ensure the health of the community by providing integrated preventive and primary care in a clinical setting through the dissemination and application of health related knowledge, thereby enhancing the quality of life for those who so desperately need affordable healthcare but cannot afford it in a typical medical office setting.
